Extended Day is the District's school age care program, providing before and after school care and full-day programming on school release days and in the summer. Elementary-age youth in the program are actively engaged in a structured environment to expand and develop their skills during their out of school time hours. Designed to meet the needs of families, with flexible scheduling including regular and drop-in contract options.
Sites are open Monday-Friday, 6:30 am-6 pm
Extended Day is offered at Birch Lake, Lakeaires, Lincoln, Matoska, Oneka, Otter Lake, Vadnais Heights, and Willow Lane Elementary Schools. Hugo Elementary students are bused to and from the program at Oneka.
The program is youth-focused and choice based
Children have the opportunity to develop strong social skills and positive relationships with peers, increase literacy and math skills, participate in individual and group activities, and work on special projects. Program activities include health and fitness, service projects, arts and crafts, creative play, languages and literacy, cooking, science, and much more. In addition to this, off-site field trips and special evens take place throughout the year.
Because every child has special and unique needs, we strive to work with families to create an atmosphere that encourages growth. The partnership between parents, child, school and staff is key to our success. To ensure quality and compliance our staff/student ratio is: 1 staff person per 15 children for grades K-6.
