White Bear Lake, Minn.
- The White Bear Lake Area High School student literary journal Sensicality recently received the highest possible award from The Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines. This high-level award was only given to a handful of other journals around the country, and was the only one to receive that distinction in Minnesota.
The magazine is the product of after-school student efforts and is coordinated by Writing Center Coordinator Carolyn Youngbauer. "I love that Sensicality allows students to share their creativity with the community," said Youngbauer. "There is so much talent reflected on these pages, and I'm thrilled that the National Council of Teachers of English works to recognize these gifts in high school students across the country."
In addition to housing work on Sensicality, the Writing Center is a resource for all students of all writing abilities to get support, feedback, suggestions, and guidance on any writing project or question. The Center's fifth annual celebration event, Sips and Swallows, will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, at the WBLAHS - South Campus Theater. The free event will consist of student readings, presentation of artwork, and guest authors David Oppegaard and Kristi Belcamino. A reception will take place after the event, at which copies of the award-winning Sensicality journal will be available for $5 each.
